The Rooney House is a study in harmony, balancing a mid-1800s Victorian terrace with the needs of a growing family. The design response centres on a sensitive restoration of the heritage facade and grand front rooms, reimagining them as a quiet master sanctuary that celebrates original ornate features. By prioritising the preservation of these historic elements within the architectural layout, the design respects the home's 19th-century soul while providing a genuine sense of calm and privacy.

Beyond the heritage threshold, the home transitions into a bright, contemporary addition that serves as the social heart of the residence. The design focuses on an expansive open-plan living area, where the kitchen and dining zones flow seamlessly into one another to facilitate effortless modern living. A central courtyard was integrated to draw natural light and ventilation deep into the narrow site, creating a constant visual and physical connection to the outdoors. This creates a home that feels both grounded in its past and perfectly suited for a contemporary lifestyle.
